ABB DCS800-EP Drive Updates
ABB is pleased to announce that the DCS800-EP now includes the easy-to-use QuickStart Assistant and the introduction of the ABB DCS800-EP User Manual and wall chart. The ABB DCS800-EP Panel Drive is a DCS800 power module and associated system components mounted and wired on a sub-panel, ready to be installed into an industrial enclosure. Standard components include AC input fuses, DC output fuses (regen), control transformer, AC contactor, plus a variety of optional components.
QUICKSTART ASSISTANT: The QuickStart Assistant has been added to the control panel software as a new way to commission the drive. It mimics the QuickStart Assistant used in the Reliance FlexPak 3000 drive and makes commissioning easier by shortening the process for the 80% of users who have simple, straightforward applications.
ABB DCS800-EP USER MANUAL: The brand new 120-page User Manual targets these same users who have simple, straightforward applications.
The DCS800-EP User Manual:
- combines the best of the DCS800 Hardware and Firmware Manuals into one shorter
- document, supports the QuickStart Assistant and the commissioning process in general
- defines the twelve application macros, defines the most commonly used parameters and signals in the “compact” set, and clearly explains faults and alarms and the related parameters and signals
In light of the lead time reduction, DCS800-EP drives will be built-to-order only. Stock drives will be discontinued.
Due to more stringent requirements in the EU for the power usage of fans, some of the DCS800 drives are transitioning to a design with fans that use less energy with no reduction in airflow. The new designs will be
rolled out gradually over the next few quarters.
The ABB DCS800 D5 Frame, 500 Volt drives: DCS800-S01-1200-05 through DCS800-S02-2000-05 become DCS800-S01-1200-05B through DCS800-S02-2000-05B. These are the first to be transitioned as of this release.
Frame D6 & D7, 600 & 700 V drives: To be transitioned at a later date. The ABB DCS800-EP Panel Drives are NOT affected. Frames D1 – D4 drives are also NOT affected.
CHANGES TO THE D5 DRIVE: The fan that was used on the D5 drive was a squirrel-cage blower that extended 2.5 inches below the DC bus bars. The fan on the new drive is a box fan that is much thinner. This reduces the overall height of the D5 drive from 41.4 inches to 37.4 inches. Both the new fan and old fan are electrically equivalent, requiring 230 V single-phase power.
