Overview
The SCL series frequency inverters engineered by Lenze are optimized for applications requiring variable speed, soft starting, and reversing operation. The frequency inverters are built in compliance with the IP20 standard and feature the V/f control. Frequency inverters of the SCL series are designed to deliver output power ranging between ⅓ HP to 15 HP.
Wiring connections can be terminated with ease on the SCL series frequency converters. The terminal blocks are arranged both at the top and bottom of the unit. Besides connecting to the AC motor, the SCL series allocate terminals for start/stop, analog input, digital inputs, and outputs.
Programming on the SCL series is aided by a 3-digit LCD displays and the programming buttons. Parameters essential to the operation of the frequency inverter can be accessed and changed from the programming buttons. Besides aiding in commissioning, the LCD display also aid technicians in troubleshooting as it provides access to the fault history.
The SCL series allow speed reference in relative to one of the 3 analog signals. A potentiometer, 0-10V DC or a 4-20 mA signal can be installed to regulate the speed of the frequency inverter. Alternatively, a fixed speed parameter can be set in via the programming interface.
To ensure proper operation of the SCL series frequency inverters, technicians need to power up the unit by following the instruction provided by Lenze. Output load must be disconnected, and the incoming source verified to ensure it matches the specification of the frequency inverter. On successful power-up, the LCD display will flash the parameter version.
Key features of the SCL series:
- Output range 1/3HP to 15 HP.
- Dynamic brake option for fast stopping and deceleration.
- IP 20 rating.
- Built-in V/f control.
SCL Series Features
SL230S - 1. SCL Series Electronic Programmable Unit (EPM)
The Electronic Programmable Unit is a module within the frequency inverter that stores the parameter and OEM settings on its memory. It can be removed and inserted on another SCM series frequency inverter to facilitate rapid configuration. No manual configuration is needed as the frequency inverter can be operated with the parameter in the EPM.
SL230S - 2. SCL Series Motor Overload
The SCL series is equipped with solid-state motor overload protection that is UL-certified. A separate thermal overload relay is not required, and this reduces the cost of installation when the SCL series is used. The overload protection allows the drive to ramp up the output current by 150% for one minute before tripping into an overload fault.
SL230S - 3. SCL Series Slip Compensation
In the event of changes in load, the SCL series counteract by altering the frequency of the shaft speed accordingly. The slip compensation of the SCL series ensures that the motor speed is maintained when the load fluctuates.

Feature-rich for motor control applications that require variable speed, and cost effective enough for those that do not. The SCM Series drive virtually eliminates the need for 2-speed motors and starters and reversing starters, and it can be applied as a “phase-converter” to operate a three phase motor from a single-phase supply.
The SCM is typically a better solution than mechanical variable speed, DC control or eddy-current drives.
- IP 20 enclosure with power terminals on top, motor terminals on the bottom
- Optional footprint filter
- 0-10 VDC or 4-20 mA speed reference
- One relay and one open-collector output
- Up to 8 selectable preset speeds
- Isolated start/stop plus 3 programmable inputs
- DC injection braking on stop (up to 1 hr)
The compact packaging and comprehensive functionality make the SCM and SCL an ideal drive solution for use on equipment requiring variable speed, soft starting or reversing operation. The SCM Series can be used with 3-phase AC induction motors rated from 1/3 HP up to 15HP (0.25 - 11 kW) on voltages from 120V single-phase to 480 V three-phase. The SCL is for 240V single-phase inputs up to 3 HP (2.2 kW).
These easy to use drives are configured and ready to use right out of the box for most simple applications. By simple reprogramming, the SCM and SCL will perform many application specific tasks such as multiple preset speeds, electronic braking and motor jogging to name a few. Like all AC Tech sub-micro drives, the SCM and SCL drives use the EPM memory technology for fast and efficient programming.
The SCL frequency inverter includes an integral line filter to comply with the relevant European Union standards for EMC and RFI levels. These drives are identical in all other respects.

SL230S - Electronic Programming Module (EPM)
When you need to program or replace a drive, whether it is 1 or 100 drives, the Electronic Programming Module (EPM) gets it done simply, quickly and most important, accurately. There is no hassle of reconfiguring each parameter or resetting the drive to factory or user default settings.
When drive reset is necessary, reset to factory default or customer settings in seconds with the EPM. When the EPM equipped drive is used on a line containing multiple drives with the identical setup, it takes just minutes to program the entire line. And EPMs can be replaced with or without power connected. When a drive must be replaced, the parameter configuration is not lost, simply plug in the pre-programmed EPM. You are good to go with Ever Present Memory.
