Precision Electric’s motor repair services division offers both large and small repair operations. This assures that a small motor gets the same attention and quality service we apply to a large motor.

Most motor repair facilities in our industry use ‘assembly line’ procedures. Unlike the competition Precision Electric has a more successful and unique way to make repairs. 9 times out of 10 the same mechanic who starts a repair job, finishes it. This is to ensure 100% quality from start to finish on our repair services.

We troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, and rewind both form-wound and random-wound machines. Among other things, this includes all types of electric motors, generators, transformers, clutches, brakes, pumps, gearboxes, blowers, fans, shafts, sleeve bearings, and hoist.

Below are a few general services Precision Electric offers:

rotary apparatus repair
electric motor repair
drive repair (ac/dc)
servo motor repair
servo drive repair
mechanical repairs
pump repair
gearbox repair
and much more

The Precision Electric in-service warranty is another advantage we have over our competitors. We encourage customers to have all spares rebuilt and ready for immediate replacement; this is to ensure maximum production with little to no downtime. Our in-service warranty begins the same day our customers install equipment rebuilt by Precision Electric, and ends 12 months later.

Derating Three Phase VFD for Single Phase Power

We receive inquiries all the time from customers who have 200-240 VAC three phase equipment and need to operate their equipment from 200-240 VAC single phase power. The main question we get is “How do I size a three phase drive for single phase input supply?”

For those of you who are not already aware, we offer products that are designed for single phase input, three phase output. The products that are available however max out at 3hp or 5hp.

The formula we use for de-rating variable frequency drives for use with single phase power is as follows: We start with the motor current and multiply it by 1.73, then we take the revised current and size a variable frequency drive with the corresponding amps.

For example. Lets say I have a 7.5hp motor that pulls approximately 23 amps; I want to use a vfd, however I only have single phase 230V line voltage. I need to multiply the 23 amps by 1.73 which gives me the new revised current (39.73 amps) Now I know I need a three phase 230V drive that is rated at 40 amps or higher. A vfd that is rated at approximately 40 amps is about 15hp, and for this particular application would run a 7.5hp 240V drive perfect on 240V single phase power.

Precision Electric, Inc highly recommends contacting us or someone with experience to safely install variable frequency drives and/or electric motors.

Electrocraft/Reliance/Allen Bradley H series servo motors frequent our repair technicians here at Precision Electric. Over the years we have repaired hundreds of H series servo motors.

The H series servo motors have been around for a long time, and are obsolete. Since the H series servo motors have become obsolete, we highly recommend customers using this equipment to use Preventitive Maintenance plans with Precision Electric. This is to lessen the chance for an H series servo motor to become damaged beyond economical repair.

The H series servo motors are used with Electrocraft 2000 series amplifiers, Allen Bradley Ultra Plus amplifiers, as well as other products manufactured by Allen Bradley, Electrocraft, and Reliance.

The H series servo motor generally needs to be serviced more often than the servo amplifiers that run them. However, Precision Electric also sees H series servo drives/amplifiers in for repair as well. Our service technicians at Precision Electric keep large stock of parts for these products to speed up repair processes, and decrease cost for both Precision Electric and their customers.

Delta Tau CNC Multi-Axis Automation Controls

We’ve Been Servicing the Industrial World Since 1983.

Quite often, on more complex moves, such as moving a laser (2D Motion) in a circle or a robot arm (3D Motion) from picking up a box to setting it down, more than one motor is required. A system is considered “multi-axis” when it uses multiple motors or feedback (axes) coordinated together (coordinate systems) to perform one or more specific tasks.

CNC (Computer Numerical Control) simply illustrates the complexity of mathematics required for a high precision system. These systems often interface with an Industrial PC as their HMI.

Unfortunately we find many multi-axis / CNC systems utilize proprietary amplifiers (drives) and motor combinations. We pride ourselves in using Delta Tau controllers, which can be used with virtually any 3rd party drive and motor combination. This makes it the optimal controller to retrofit an already existing system or building a new one from scratch.

An example of a System Controller, known as the Delta Tau UMAC, the controller can simultaneously control up to 64 axes with extreme precision (within millimeters).

CNC and Multi-Axis Applications Include:

– Robot Packaging Systems
– Laser Cutting Machines
– Water Cutting Machines
– Procedural Systems
– Custom Machining Systems
– Patterning Systems
– Bending Systems
– High Precision Systems
– Robotic Painting Systems
– 2D Linear Motion Systems
– 3D Space Motion Systems
– And Much More…

Industrial Manufacturing Economy Drives Markets to Seek Online Alternatives

It has become common knowledge that the poor economy is causing businesses all over the United States to suffer. As a result of the credit crunch, industrial manufacturing, automation, processing, and other related markets have been seeking alternatives, and found them online.  Historically, industrial markets have relied heavily on the local businesses they have been accustomed to for decades.

The enormous growth of the internet as a form of research and alternative shopping has begun to drive these industrial markets to seek online alternatives.  Many are learning they have been losing thousands of dollars over the past 20 years by seeking no other alternative.  Now many are taking a chance.

“It really is an exciting time,” states Craig Chamberlin, marketing manager of VFDDistributing.com, “many of our customers are reluctant to try alternatives because they assume online businesses will not provide the quality of service they find in their local shops.  Now we have an opportunity to show we’ve stayed successful for 20 years by looking out for our customers.”  VFDDistributing.com offers online drive sales but they are expanding all their services to their online customer base.

Excited, Craig states, “If they give us a chance, we can show them that we are extremely experienced in working in the field and offering extremely competitive pricing.”  Their parent company, Precision Electric, is a one stop shop for everything ranging from Motor Repair to Panel Building and Complete Automation.  All of these services which are made available to the customers they make online.

People are excited about it. Industries such as OEMs, industrial manufacturing, food, wood and steel processing, automation have a new way to cut costs, save time, and have the technical support they deserve. One customer says, “All I did was a google search looking for a particular piece of equipment I was looking for, and many choices came up, it’s definitely a more competitive world out there for our vendors.  If they aren’t paying attention and staying competitive, they are going to lose alot of work.”

There are a long line of reasons customers are seeking internet for purchasing and repair work in the industrial world. Many argue that not only is it the issue of price, but also technical support as well as repair and service work.  Many local vendors have had these customers ‘trapped’ into a corner for so long, local repair centers have lost their excellent customer service and support which they once targeted these customers with.

Precision Electric, Inc. is a family owned business that offers excellence in industrial support and service work, and have been doing so since 1984.  Simply inquire for a free quote or if you are in need technical support.

Reading VFD Nameplate Data Off Of Your SMVector Drive (Video)

For those of you who are familiar or unfamiliar with Lenze / AC Techs SMVector series drive they have come a long way since their conception. All AC Tech products are manufactured in Uxbridge Massachusettes. Today we discuss how to read the nameplate data off of the drive. It is not as complicated as most might think. This is a great way to determine what voltage inputs, frequencies, phases are required and how to determine whether the Variable Frequency Drive itself is an adequate enough size for the motor you want to connect to it. Enjoy!

Lenze EtherNet/IP for SMVector

Lenze-AC Tech announces the release of EtherNet/IP as an optional communication protocol for the SMVector Drive. According to Mike Bailey, Product Sales Manager at Lenze-AC Tech, the SMVector AC Drive can seamlessly operate on an EtherNet/IP network with the addition of a simple plug-in communication module. “Other network protocols are also available as option modules including CANopen, DeviceNet, Profibus and Modbus RS-485,” states Bailey.

EtherNet/IP is a member of the DeviceNet and ControlNet family of Common Industrial Protocols (CIP) developed by Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation – ROK). As a member of the CIP family, EtherNet/IP can utilize the same set of pre-defined common objects, thus making communication between devices from different manufacturers much easier.

According to Lenze-AC Tech company officials, Lenze-AC Tech worked together with Allen-Bradley engineers to ensure complete product compatibility. “We first added EtherNet/IP to our PositionServo Drive and since then, our customers have been looking for EtherNet/IP for their AC Drive Solutions,” says Bailey, and he adds, “Allen-Bradley remains the largest implementer of EtherNet/IP, with most applications in the packaging and automotive markets; providing Allen-Bradley compatibility and multiple communication options for all of our products allows our customers to choose the fieldbus that best fits their automation application as well as their physical network.” Bailey explains that EtherNet/IP is a popular industrial network solution because it can support a nearly unlimited amount of nodes, can be used on a single point connection for configuration and control and permits devices to send and receive messages simultaneously.

SMVector Pumps Hard-to-Handle Chemicals

Flomotion Systems develops and manufactures unique sealless peristaltic pumps that eliminate loss-of prime failures in chemical feed applications. Typical markets served include water & wastewater treatment, chemical, food & dairy, pharmaceutical, pulp & paper, energy management, power and irrigation.

A long-time user of Lenze – AC Tech’s MC Series drives; Flomotion has now incorporated the economical, compact and lightweight SMVector drive in the design of their 2001HEC Series pumps.

The Flomotion 2001HEC Series are rugged, reliable and cost effective industrial hose pumps built to succeed in harsh industrial environments. Several features of the SMVector make it a perfect fit for the job, including a removable terminal cover; easy access for control and power wiring and the fact that it can handle a wide range of operating temperatures from -10 to 55ºC. Last but not least, according to Flomotion, the SMVector offers better protection against electrical shock than any other NEMA 1 controller on the market.

Mounting the SMVector controller directly to the pump allows Flomotion to optimize precious panel space and offer its customers outstanding convenience. The unique EPM or Electronic Programmable Module stores the drive’s parameter configuration greatly simplifying initial setup.

Centrifugal and pumping applications especially those moving fluids or a mixture of wet and dry ingredients present a challenge because the speed is affected by the load. Fluid moving applications require ‘variable speed’ – a drive and motor that can produce the necessary horsepower to move the load at a constant speed. The motor will draw from the drive the amount.

of current it needs to ‘do the job’. The SMVector drive works well in this type of application because the speed can be controlled tightly in vector mode (more torque/less speed) or loosely in V/Hz mode to determine just the right amount of speed.

SMVector Benefits

• Multiple enclosure options available including washdown
• Wide temperature range: -10 to 55ºC
• Removable memory (EPM)
• Multiple operational modes (V/Hz, Enhanced V/Hz, Open Loop Vector)
• Lightweight, compact design
• Intuitive programming
• Multiple communication options
• Economical
