Overview
Manufactured all over Europe, GA500 is Yaskawa's answer to the demands for a easy to use, sustainable and flexible drive. For this reason, each of the drives have a wide power/voltage range and are coated to withstand harsh environments. Notably, both normal duty and heavy duty drives can withstand 110% and 150% overload respectively for up to 60 seconds. As a result, the GA500 is favorable for both normal and heavy duty applications.
The GA500 precisely controls induction, permanent magnet, and synchronous reluctance motors providing versatility to run a variety of applications with just one drive. GA500 supports 200 V to 480 V input for single and 3-phase voltages.
Besides the robust performance, the GA500 is available in the IP20 enclosure. As a result, systems that don't need protection against touch by fingers or liquid protection will find the GA500 as ideal. In addition to this, the flexible design of the GA500 enables reliable use under a variety of environment conditions.
Installation of the GA500 is made simple with the keyhole mounts as well as the optional ring kit and DIN rail. Parameter configuration is done via the integrated keypad and display, which allows parameter setup and control of the drive. The built in braking transistor, optional EMC filter, and 24 VDC power supply also mean reduced external components during installation.
Flexibility of the GA500 is also empowered by the optional accessories, including a network communications adapter, a EMC filter, LCD keypad attachment, LCD keypad, Bluetooth keypad, AC reactors, DC chokes, and external heatsink attachment. Installers can also program the drive with the DriveWizard and DriveWorksEZ software along with the DriveWizard mobile app that turns a smartphone or tablet into a interface for a GA500 drive.

9. Application Features
- PID Control
- The PID control function creates the options to adjust the proportional gain, integral time, and derivative time that has an effect on the bias between the target value and the feedback value to match the target value to the detected value. Use this function to adjust the drive output to accurately match the flow, pressure, and temperature in the application match the target value.
- Setpoint Selection
- Sleep Mode
- EMC Filter
- Eliminates the need for external components with additional wiring, thereby saving additional space inside the control panel
- Speed Search
- The speed search function detects the actual speed of a coasting motor, then restarts the motor before the motor stops. Use speed search with these conditions:
- Continue operation after momentary power loss
- Switch from commercial power supply to drive power
- Restart a coasting fan
- Torque Detection
- The overtorque/undertorque detection function prevents damage to machinery and loads.
- Overtorque is when there is too much load on the machine. If the motor current or output torque is at the overtorque detection level for the overtorque detection time, the drive will output an alarm and turn off the output.
- Undertorque is when a load suddenly decreases. When the motor current or output torque is at the undertorque detection level for the undertorque detection time, the drive will output an alarm and turn off the output.
- The undertorque detection function can detect these conditions:
- Machine belt cuts
- Unusual operation of the electromagnetic contactor on the drive output side
- Clogged output side air filters in fan and blowers
- Damage to blade tips and broken string
- Dwell Function
- The dwell function momentarily holds the output frequency at start and stop. This prevents motor speed loss when you start and stop heavy loads. It's also enabled when backlash on the machine side causes sudden movement at the start of acceleration and deceleration.
- At the start of acceleration, the drive uses the output frequency and acceleration time set for the dwell function to automatically operate at low speed to minimize the effects of backlash. Then, the drive can accelerate again. The dwell function operate the same for deceleration.
